During our last class of graduate school, we had to do an impromptu writing-a poem, based on a photo that we brought with us to class. Being the slacker that I am, I forgot to bring a photo: iPhone to the rescue! Fortunately I happened to have a few on my phone that I quickly scrolled through (and then pretended was my intent all along). The photo that popped up was one of Steve and Drew, and the following is a little something I wrote - inspired by my boys.

(A note: understand that Drew, being but three years old, has some of his pronouns a bit mixed up - which is why I wrote it as I did. Just to clarify, since I also stated that I wrote this while in graduate school. Clarification seemed necessary, considering. Also - I'm not a poet.)

Look it He

Tall and small
Boy and man
Strong hands holding
Look it, Daddy
Look it He

Peanut butter sticky fingers
pat, patting day old scruff

Laughing
Shouting
Running
Dancing
Daddy, look it me

Busy finger architects
Bellies to the floor
Lincoln Logs and Legos
Build it up
Crash it down

Sun peeks through curtains
Dust dances in the air

Look it, Daddy
Look it me

Blue eyes
All four
Smiling
Look it Daddy
Look it He
